Blower capacity choice:
A Hoods main function is to remove the heat, smoke, and fumes of cooking, baking, or frying.
Since there are different types and sizes of cook top or oven, it is important to size the Hood exhaust output correctly.
The heat output of your cook top is measured in BTUs/per hour.
The hood exhaust capacity is measured in CFM (cubic feet of air per minute)
Figure about 100 CFM per 10000 BTU
Example: If you have a Thermador 48" gas cook top with a 60000 btu/hour heat output you would choose a 600 cfm blower for your hood.
If there is a very long run of duct work or a lot of turns you might want to increase that figure.
There are four different methods of determining the amount of air flow needed for a cooking area.
You are advised to consult an HVAC professional, architect ,or engineer for a highly customized interior application.
Duct sizing:
Since we make 300, 600,1200 cfm size blowers. her are some matching duct sizes to use for your project.
300 = 4" round
600= 6" round
1200= 10" round
You may need to convert to rectangular shapes to run inside your walls. Calculate for the same amount of cubic inches.
Example: using the formula for the area of a circle A = 3.14 X Radius X Radius ( Pi*R 2)
A 6" round duct has 3.14 X 3 x 3 = 28.26 sq inches
A rectangular duct of 3" X 10" , or 4" x 8" would work as well for the job.
Duct type:
Use standard metal round or square only.
Stay away from ribbed or cheap, flammable dryer ducts.
